Grand Bahama Sailing Club hosts 2011 Bahamas Laser Midwinters

Published in the Tribune On:Tuesday, March 22, 2011
THE nation's second city hosted a sailing event that featured sailors from across the Bahamas.
The 2011 Bahamas Laser Midwinters was put on by the Grand Bahama Sailing Club with competitors traveling from Harbour Island, New Providence and Freeport.
Two divisions of boats sailed, the Laser 4.7 and the Laser Radials. The Laser 4.7 class is popular among junior sailors who have just graduated from Optimist sailing. As sailors weigh out of the 4.7 class, they typically move on to the Laser Radial class, which requires the control of a larger sail. There were a total of 11 boats on the race course.
Chris Sands, of the Nassau Yacht Club, got first place in the Laser Radial division. Sands took first play in each of the nine races in a dominant performance to finish with an adjusted score of eight.(more...)
