2011 Valentine's Day Regatta in St. Petersburg, Florida

Four Bahamian youth Optimist Dingy sailors attended this year’s International Valentine’s Regatta, which hosted over 220 Optimist sailors and was held at St. Petersburg Sailing Center in Florida on February 12th and 13th. Top American sailors and some of the top finishers at the 2010 Optimist Worlds were in attendance. Battling extremely cold sailing conditions and the largest Optimist fleets they had ever competed again, all of our sailors represented The Bahamas well and should be congratulated on their achievements.(more...)

Daniel Gibson Captures the 2010 Bahamas Optimist National Championship Title

Nassau, Oct-4, 2010 - A total of thirty six boats competed this past weekend on Montagu Bay in Nassau in the championship fleet of the 2010 Bahamas Opti National Championship. Sailors coming from Nassau, but also from Long Island, Abaco, Freeport, Governor’s Harbour and Harbour Island.
Three races were sailed on Saturday in light wind conditions and four races were completed on Sunday in 8 to 11 knots winds.
Fourteen year old Daniel Gibson from Nassau was crowned Bahamas Champion 2010. Daniel sailed consistently, finishing among the top six sailors in all races except for a seven place in race number two. This is the first time he is awarded the Geoffrey Holowesko Trophy. Congratulations Daniel!

80 Junior Sailors Prepare for the 2010 Bahamas Optimist National Championship

Nassau, Sep-30, 2010 - (by Helen Hudson) ~ Fifty junior sailors from Long Island, Governor’s Harbour, Harbour Island, Abaco and Freeport and 30 from Nassau will compete this weekend, October 2nd and 3rd, in Montagu Bay for the Bahamas Optimist National Open Championship 2010.
