Orange Bowl Regatta at Miami
(by Fay Regan)
Six junior sailors have registered to sail in the Coral Reef
Yacht Clubs Orange Bowl Regatta Dec. 27-30. This
is one of several Junior Olympics events scheduled each year by the US Sailing
Association. Last year the regatta drew 628
youth sailors from six continents, and the numbers are up this year.Regatta statistics
follow at the end of this article. Our sailors will all be
competing in the Optimist Dinghy. Four have
entered the novice Green Fleet competition for which more than 80 youngsters
have already registered. In addition, we have a
sailor in the White Fleet for experienced skippers ten years and under, and another in the
Red Fleet for experienced skippers aged 13-15.The OBR Laser Fleet is
up this year from 100 in 2003 to a new record of 159 at this writing, proof that those who
age out of Optis at 16 keep right on sailing.Watch this site for
accounts of the regatta from our attending coaches and parents.
